VICE-PRESIDENT SAUGEEN SHORES BMX

It is with great sadness that the Saugeen Shores BMX Club Executive has to inform you that, Matt Terry, our club Vice-President, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at the age of 54.  Some of you may not have known much about Matt and his contributions to the Saugeen Shores BMX, but Matt was one of the co-founders of this club with Claude Gareau.  He has been part of the executive since that time and has always been a great supporter of Saugeen Shores BMX, traveling to O-Cups in Chatham and Milton to cheer on our riders and provide support during mechanical problems. 

Matt was always willing to help anyone out and has been a great asset on the executive over the years. He always rose to the occasion at provincial time getting the track in tip top shape. He will always be remembered for his painting of SAUGEEN SHORES BMX on our start hill before the provincial finals in 2008.

We would like to extend our condolences to his wife Terry and family during this difficult time, he will be greatly missed and will always be remembered at our club.

We will be sending flowers on behalf of the club, and on the suggestion of Vicki Parent, we will be doing a dedication in the spring and placing a plaque on the start tower in his memory, at the first gate drop of the 2010 season.

A funeral service will be conducted in the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, on Monday, October 26th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Margaret Greenhow officiating. A reception to celebrate Matt’s life will follow in the funeral home reception suite.

Memorial contributions to the Saugeen Shores BMX Track or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

Reminder about the banquet.  It  will be held on Sunday, October 25th from 5-7 p.m. at the Rotary Hall (upstairs at the Plex).
 
Cost for members is included in the registration fee.  Non-members will be $8.00. I am still finalizing the menu, but I think we are going with Pizza, wings, veggies and cake, unless someone else has some suggestions.
 
Please RSVP to me by October 18th, so I can ensure we have enough food on order.  Also if anyone wants to lend a hand, please let me know as well.

Just a few reminders, as well as some new information:
 
■ No racing this Sunday, July 19th due to the O-Cup races in Milton
■ On-line registration for this weekends O-Cups closes this Wednesday at midnight
■ In August we will be moving racing to Thursday nights (see calendar below for full schedule)
■ Only one Sunday race left in July (26th)
■ Volunteers are still needed for race days; flaggers & food booth.  Sign up sheets in registration shack
■ Volunteers needed for our O-cups for flaggers, food booth and other various duties on the race days -sign-up sheets in registration shack
■ Help will also be needed ahead of time to prepare the track for the O-Cups.  Further emails will be sent out looking volunteers to assist with this.  A ton of work goes into hosting this event and your participation is needed to make this a successful weekend.

Just a reminder that there are no races this Sunday, June 7.

We will race on Thursday, June 11, instead. Registration by 6:30 and racing to start at 7:00 pm.

Also, good luck to all of our members who are racing this weekend in the Provincial races in Chatham. We hope that you have an enjoyable and exciting time!! We look forward to hearing your results!

We will hold clinic nights every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Rhonda will be sending out the calendar of events for June and July in an email very shortly. At this time, for the month of June, there will be one race on Thursday, June 11. Registration by 6:30 and racing to start at 7:00 pm. There will be racing on Sunday June 14, 21 and 28 with racing at the usual time of 1:00 pm.

No racing on Sunday, June 7.

Volunteers are also needed for the food booth.

Welcome to another exciting season of racing! We are hoping to start racing this Sunday, May 24. Registration for racing is from 11:30 - 12:30 in order to start racing by 1:00 pm. Please be sure that your child has registered at the new shed by 12:30 . At that time we will put the motos together and post them as soon after that as possible on the Moto Board, located at the side wall of the shed closest to the start hill. In the event of rain, racing would be cancelled.

In June we would like to have race days on Thursday nights, due
to the O-Cup and National schedule
* Racing would start at 7:00. (registration deadline 6:30)

Please let Steve or Rhonda know whether you are available to race on
Thursday nights.

Thank you very much to Rhonda for taking on book keeping responsibilities with the club! We are also looking for some help with the food booth this weekend.

We really appreciate all your kind donations to the weekly draws ! Please drop these items off at the registration shed on Sunday.

Hi Everyone
I will be working on the track this Saturday from 9:30 until whenever I get it done.  I have rented a roller for the weekend so I would appreciate any help with the track that I can, even if it’s just for an hour.
The season is fast approaching so I wanted the track in shape so anyone can get on and ride safely.  I’m not able to work on it on Sunday because of prior commitments so I’m hoping to get it done on Saturday.
 
I also need a couple or more of volunteers to go to Milton with me on May 9th for a gate training day mandated by the CCA, I need a least 2 volunteers or we can’t have any races at the track because we won’t be covered by insurance.  Lunch will be provided by the OCA and I can drive.  Please let me know ASAP, I need to let the OCA know so they can order the lunches.

Hello everyone! We had a successful registration at the Leisure Fair. It was great to see everyone there! This is just a reminder that you can register any time during the season for our club. I will attach the registration form for our club as well as the registration form for the OCA Licence which is also required . Depending on the weather we would like to start in early May. We will email and post on the website any information about track clean up and start dates.

Hello Everyone! Just a reminder to mark this date on your calendar. The Saugeen Shores Leisure Fair will be held on Thursday, March 26 from 6-8 pm and Saturday, March 28 from 10 am til 12 noon, at the Plex in Port Elgin. If you would like to sign up for the Saugeen Shores BMX Club, we will be there for youto sign up early. All forms will be posted soon on our website. In order to race at our track you will need an Ontario Cycling Association Licence, plus registration with our clubl There are two types of licences. One is for racing only at our track, and is called a Local Track Access Permit, and the other is for racing at our track and others around the province and is called a UCI Licence. These forms are currently available on the OCA website, www.ontariocycling.org

This year Rhonda Lightfoot will manage the website, and Patti-Jo Gross will look after the Food Booth and the books. Thank you so much to these two wonderful volunteers who have stepped up .
